This cultural resource report details the findings of a modified Phase Ia cultural resources inventory conducted by URS Corporation (URS) for the National Park Service (NPS), Denver Service Center within the Gateway National Recreation Area (GATE), Jamaica Bay Unit. URS performed the survey at Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, New York. A modified cultural resources inventory was conducted in support of proposed replacement of aging electrical cables. The project complied with the Cultural Resource Management Guidelines (NPS DO-28) of the National Park Service and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. The goals of the investigation were to 1) identify areas of disturbance and fill that may be excluded from further investigation; and 2) delineate areas with the potential for sites that should be avoided or mitigated during replacement of the electrical cables. Cartographic and photographic resources were used in conjunction with cultural resource studies and published historical texts to identify areas of disturbance, episodes of filling, and historical uplands predating the construction of Floyd Bennett Field (1928-1931).
