Archaeological Inventory and Assessment of Crescent and Moraine Creeks, Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve. Results from the 2019 Field Season

From June 4 to 14, 2019, a team of four National Park Service archaeologists completed intensive evaluation and testing of archaeological sites in the southwest section of Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve. This project aimed to re-evaluate previously recorded sites and preform new survey along the Crescent-Moraine Creek region on Yukon Charley Rivers National Preserve and to collect data for Determinations of Eligibility for the National Register. Over the course of ten days, the crew intensively surveyed 20 previously recorded sites within 4.2 km of a base camp established on the north bank of Crescent Creek. During the ten days of field work, the crew recorded eleven new sites during pedestrian survey. The sites documented during the 2019 field season were in good fair, or poor condition and ranged from localized surface scatters of a few flakes to extensive multi-scatter surface sites with hundreds of pieces of debitage and lithic tools. This report summarizes the results of the 2019 field work in Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve and provides recommendations for future work in the Crescent and Moraine Creek area.
