ABSTRACT: This thesis examines the suitability of electric bikeshare, or e-bikeshare, programs in three national parks, Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the National Mall area in Washington D.C., via a suitability analysis using ArcGIS Pro. The study focuses on identifying areas within the parks that are suitable for e-bikeshare stations based on criteria such as proximity to visitor centers, popular attractions, and existing bike infrastructure. The research draws on a combination of GIS analyses and literature review to assess the feasibility of e-bikeshare programs in the parks and the potential benefits and challenges associated with their implementation. The findings provide valuable insights into the spatial distribution of potential e-bikeshare docking stations, and the factors that may affect their effectiveness in promoting sustainable transportation options for park visitors. The results of this study can inform the development of policies and strategies to promote sustainable transportation options in national parks and contribute to a better understanding of the role of GIS analysis in supporting decision-making for sustainable tourism and recreation.
