URS Corporation, Ziesing GH, Harris MD. 2012. Phase IA Archeological Assessment Rockaway Peninsula Portion of the Rockaway Delivery Lateral Project, Queens County, New York. Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company, LLC, a Williams Company

Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company, LLC (Transco), a Williams Company, is proposing to create a new lateral on its existing system. The Rockaway Delivery Lateral Project (Project), located in Kings and Queens Counties, New York, will consist of two main components: a 26-inch-diameter pipeline (Rockaway Delivery Lateral [LDL]) and a meter and regulating station (M&R Facility) with associated equipment. Transco is also proposing to construct an M&R Facility. An archeological assessment for the M&R Facility and a marine assessment for the offshore portion of the RDL were prepared at an earlier date. The archeological assessment presented in this report covers the portion of the RDL that crosses Rockaway Peninsula, extending beneath Jacob Riis Park in the Gateway National Recreation Area (NRA), Jamaica Bay Unit. The Phase IA survey involved background research and assessments within the study area based on review of the geologic background, area history, and known cultural resources in and around the project area.
