Riparian monitoring data has been collected from three perennial streams within Wind Cave National Park (WICA) using the Bureau of Land Management’s Multiple Indicator Monitoring (MIM) protocol. Designated monitoring areas were established on Beaver Creek, Highland Creek, and Cold Spring Creek. Data collection began in 2009 and repeated sampling efforts have been performed at irregular intervals since then. Additional data collection efforts using the same protocol have been implemented in Custer State Park and neighboring National Forest lands. This report 1) summarizes riparian condition within each monitoring site for each year of data collection, 2) uses graphical and regression analysis methods to assess trends in each individual MIM indicator and metric, 3) uses those methods to assess trends in Custer State Park and neighboring Forest Service areas compared to within WICA, and 4) provides the details associated with the methods used to estimate the magnitude of trend detectable for a given level of statistical power under varying levels of sampling effort.
