This Historic Structure Report (HSR) documents the development, use, and current condition of the Providence Spring House (structure #107) and associated structures located on the west edge of the Prison Site at Andersonville National Historic Site in Andersonville, Georgia. Included in the study are: the Providence Spring House with interior marble fountain, two brick cisterns and their piping, the lower stone fountain with base and concrete patio, a brick runnel and reflecting pool, circulation features, retaining walls, drainage features, natural systems and features, and vegetation. The HSR examines options for potential treatment and use of the building and structures. The National Park Service will use this report to inform and guide its stewardship of the historic resources. The HSR includes two parts, Part I: Developmental History and Part II: Treatment and Use. Part I includes three sections that describe the historical background and context for the structures, the site’s chronology of development and use, and the existing conditions. The Ultimate Treatment and Use chapter is divided into several sections that present the recommended ultimate treatment and use for the resource, evaluate alternative treatment options, and outline the requirements for treatment. A bibliography follows Part II. The appendices follow the bibliography. Appendix A contains historic drawings and documents referenced in Parts I and II. Appendix B contains scaled documentation drawings of the existing site and structures. Appendix C contains resources for treatment. Workers commissioned by the National Woman's Relief Corps (WRC) completed construction of the stone Providence Spring House in 1901, at the site of a natural spring in the prison site with historical significance. It is a commemorative resource in the designed public memorial landscape of Andersonville National Historic Site.
