City of Allentown Guidelines for Historic Districts

Easton L. 2021. City of Allentown Guidelines for Historic Districts. City of Allentown, Bureau of Planning and Zoning & Historical Architecture Review Board

The purpose of the “Guidelines for Historic Districts” (the Guidelines) is to advise the treatment of historic buildings in order to preserve and enhance their unique character. They articulate best practices and encourage compatible changes that protect the architectural heritage within Allentown’s historic districts. The Guidelines are intended to assist property owners, residents, contractors, design professionals, local government staff, and members of the Historical Architectural Review Board in making appropriate decisions about changes to a historic property and promote good stewardship of Allentown’s collective heritage. Project funding was provided in part by a Historic Preservation Fund grant to the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office, administered by the State, Tribal, Local Plans and Grants division, National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior (grant number P20AF00043).
