Biogeochemical Characterizations of Subsurface Microbial Habitats in Death Valley National Park

Moser D, Becraft E, Merino N, Mullin S. Biogeochemical Characterizations of Subsurface Microbial Habitats in Death Valley National Park. Research Permit and Reporting System

A primary objective is the expansion of non-destructive microbial and geochemical characterization of deep groundwater microbial communities for spring habitats in Death Valley National Park, to include subsurface resources. Samples analyzed thus far suggest that well Inyo-BLM 1 samples deep groundwaters that host microbial communities similar to others discovered in deep fractured rock aquifers of Canada and South Africa (see three attached publications).
