Limpkin in Cades Cove

Harr B. 2023. Limpkin in Cades Cove. National Park Service

Two images of Limpkin (Aranus guarauna) shared with NPS to document first record of this species in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Bird has a large snail shell in its bill. It was on the Cades Cove Loop, headed toward the exit, he was in the woods to the left, just before the rise that then goes down the hill to the Sparks Ln entrance/exit. Presumably same bird was encountered in fields closer to Hyatt Lane on 10/18/2023 by the same observer, who shared two additional images with the Park.
