Narrative Description Summary Paragraph: "The Jolley Historic District is primarily a residential district located in Vermillion east of the historic downtown and south of Main Street. It is flanked on the north by the University Historic District and on the west by the Forest Avenue Historic District. The district sits atop a bluff overlooking the confluence of the Vermillion and Missouri Rivers to the south. The sizes of lots vary from fairly large to small; all are situated along tree-lined streets. Included within the district are two churches and one school. The district is significant for its architecture and examples of several styles can be found including Queen Anne, Italianate, Second Empire, Folk Victorian, Neo-Classical Revival, Tudor Revival, Colonial Revival, Craftsman Bungalow, Minimal Traditional, and Ranch. It also exemplifies the residential development patterns of Vermillion between 1880 and 1965." Statement of Significance Summary Paragraph: "The Jolley Historic District meets National Register Criterion A and is significant at the local level in the area of Community Planning and Development. It also meets National Register Criterion C and is significant at the local level in the area of Architecture. The period of significance begins in 1880, the date of construction of the oldest extant houses in the district, and extends to 1965, the end of the period of active construction within the 50-year mark in the district. The district exemplifies the patterns of community residential development in Vermillion during the late nineteenth and early-to-mid-twentieth century. In addition, the contributing houses and secondary buildings illustrate late-nineteenth and early-to-mid-twentieth century residential architecture in Vermillion."
