Standard Operating Procedure 2.3.10 Post Survey GPS Data Processing—Version 2.0
Gonzalez A and Baron LC. 2023. Standard Operating Procedure 2.3.10 Post Survey GPS Data Processing—Version 2.0. Southeast Coast Network
The following standard operating procedure (SOP) outlines the procedures for post-processing the shoreline survey Global Positioning System (GPS) data collected using SOP 1.3.22, conducting the GPS shoreline survey (Baron 2017). Following the steps and procedures outlined in this SOP will ensure that the same techniques are used, that will allow comparisons of datasets to be made within and between parks through time. The topics addressed in this SOP include: (1) set unit time settings, (2) transferring GPS data to computer, (3) differential correction of GPS data, (4) exporting corrected GPS files, and (5) preparing exported files for analysis. These procedures are adapted from the Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network (NCBN) Geomorphological Monitoring Protocol Part I—Ocean Shoreline Position (Psuty et al. 2010). This SOP assumes the user has at least an intermediate understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and a familiarity with GPS data and Pathfinder Office software.
