Park Resource Technical Report. National Park Service
The National Park Service publishes a range of reports that address natural and cultural resource topics. These reports are of interest and applicability to a broad audience in the National Park Service and others in natural resource management, including scientists, conservation and environmental constituencies, and the public. The Park Resource Technical Report series is used to disseminate results of scientific studies in the physical, biological, cultural, historical, and social sciences. The series supports the advancement of science, informed decision-making, and the achievement of the National Park Service mission. The series provides contributors with a forum for presenting comprehensive information that may not be suitable for publication in external venues due page limitations. Two types of reports are included in the report series: • Findings. Intended to present final results of scientific investigations, assessments, or analyses. Examples of appropriate material include condition assessments, monitoring status and trend reports, and results of resource inventories or other park projects. • Open-File Report. Used to disseminate preliminary findings that will be superseded by final information published at a later time. Examples of appropriate material for release as an Open-File Report include preliminary maps or analytical results needed as supporting documentation that can be referenced, discussed, or interpreted in other NPS publications or used as the basis for park management decisions. Because of their preliminary nature, Open-File Reports should be infrequently used, are not the appropriate series to present significant new or novel findings that may be determinative of NPS policy decisions, and should not be used as final reports for scientific investigations.
