This Historic Structure Report (HSR) presents a planning document for the three historic buildings at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising, Michigan. It identifies characteristics and features that convey the historic significance and character of the Life Saving Station, Boathouse and Oil House and provides a plan for long term preservation and stewardship. Presenting a comprehensive understanding of the physical evolution of the buildings, the HSR also provides guidance for their care. Documentation of historic significance and evaluation of integrity of the buildings provides the framework upon which treatment recommendations are based. All treatment recommendations follow National Register of Historic Places guidelines and Secretary of the Interior Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. The condition assessment for each element/feature are documented in Part 1. Treatment options for each element/feature of the building is documented in Part 2. Recommended treatment for each building is rehabilitation.
