This study includes six historic South Park Street residential properties in the Central High School National Register District and the Daisy Bates House National Historic Landmark, located within the city of Little Rock, Arkansas. The residential properties are associated with the Civil Rights school desegregation events that took place at Little Rock Central High School from 1957 to 1960. The purpose of this report is to document existing conditions and provide maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation guidance for six of the South Park Street residential properties and the Daisy Bates House National Historic Landmark. The six South Park Street residential properties are single- and two-story wood-frame houses constructed between the late 19th-century and early 20th-century. The houses are located on South Park Street between West Daisy L. Gatson Bates Drive and West 16th Street, across the street from the front/main entrance to Little Rock Central High School. The six residential properties on South Park Street included in this study are privately owned and are located within the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site boundary, which is operated by the National Park Service. The Daisy Bates House National Historic Landmark is located at 1207 West 28th Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. The single-story brick masonry ranch house was constructed in 1955. That year, L.C. and Daisy Bates purchased and moved into the home. As the state president of the NAACP and a Little Rock resident, Daisy Bates became the official mentor of the Little Rock Public Schools desegregation battle.
