The Richard L. Proenneke Site is located in the remote region of Twin Lakes within Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. Accessible only by foot or float plane, the site is approximately 30 miles northeast of Port Alsworth. The site contributes to the 2022 Twin Lake Cultural Landscape Inventory and Report and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. The Proenneke Site includes three contributing buildings: the cabin, cache, and woodshed. Constructed as Richard Proenneke’s private residence in the wilderness, it now serves as an interpretive exhibit for Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. In response to growing visitation and increased wear and tear on the buildings, the National Park Service (NPS) commissioned Hennebery Eddy Architects to prepare this Historic Structure Report (HSR). This HSR will serve as a planning and management document for the Lake Clark National Park and Preserve to inform future preservation and maintenance projects on site. It summarizes historical information, documents current conditions, and provides longterm stewardship recommendations and analysis in accordance with The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
