The Pennsylvanian Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has recently proposed a construction project to stabilize the slopes of the rock outcrops along the sections of PA 611 within Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, to reduce the occurrence of rockfalls within this section of the park. Recent rockfalls have closed this approximately 1.5-mile section of PA 611 within DEWA. PennDot proposed to remove loose rock, soils, and dead vegetation from 54 sites between Point of Gap Overlook and Resort Point Overlook. To mitigate the construction and alteration impact of these slopes, DEWA officials have requested assessments of the natural resources that occur along the stretch of PA 611, including paleontological resources. The lead author led a paleontological field inventory to the affected area in April 2024 and prepared a report on the fossils observed there.
