From the project background: "Acadia National Park is planning to replace the existing reinforced concrete pipe culvert that carries Cromwell Brook under the Park Loop Road at the north outlet of the Great Meadow near Bar Harbor, Maine (the Project). The Project will include a new larger culvert crossing with a nature-like stream simulation design, restoration of eroded stream channel at the culvert inlet and outlet, and construction of a new grade control structure at the transition from the Great Meadow to the new stream channel. Concurrent with the culvert replacement, the Project will include targeted restoration work within the Great Meadow. Because this new crossing will affect water levels and outflows from the Great Meadow, VHB performed a hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) study to support design that can help mitigate flooding and restore healthy wetland function."
