Cape Cod National Seashore (CACO) manages one of the longest stretch of undeveloped shoreline on the east coast. The beaches at CACO are prime nesting and staging grounds for many avian species. CACO is responsible for monitoring and managing the protection of federal and state listed beach- nesting and migratory shorebirds including the piping plover (Charadrius melodus), least tern (Sternula antillarum), American oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus), Common tern (Sterna hirundo), Roseate tern (Sterna dougllii), and Red Knot (Calidris canutus).
