Located in southwest Alaska, within the boundary of KATM, the site of Fure's Bay of Islands Cabin is comprised of the main cabin, known as Fure's Cabin and includes an outhouse, windmill tower, and storage shed that are all within close proximity to the cabin. Fure's Bay of Islands Cabin is a one-room handhewn log cabin that was constructed by Roy Fure sometime around 1926 and is architecturally and historically significant for its fine craftsmanship and association with Roy Fure. Fure occupied the cabin part-time until he left Alaska in 1960; NPS acquired the property following his death in 1962. The cabin was used as a backcountry patrol cabin and was open to public use through a Special Use Permit, but was made available for general public use starting in 1985. Fure's Bay of Islands Cabin represents trapping and the subsistence-based life that was lived by many individuals in the region during the early twentieth century. The building and site continues to remain historically significant in KATM.
