This property is the subject of a pending National Historic Landmark nomination. The August 2024 draft of the National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for the Reeve REA Power Generating Plant in the vicinity of Hampton, Franklin County, Iowa, will be considered by the Landmarks Committee of the National Park System Advisory Board (NPSAB) at its meeting on September 18, 2024. The Landmarks Committee will evaluate whether to advise the NPSAB to recommend that the Secretary of the Interior proceed with designation. The NHL nomination for the Reeve REA Power Generating Plant documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 1 for its outstanding ability to convey the pivotal role of the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) in electrifying rural homes. The Reeve Plant is the most well-preserved of the first four REA-financed power generating plants in the nation. The period of national significance is 1938-1948.
