For this assessment, we employed an urban forest analytical tool called i-Tree Canopy, which is a web-based software application developed by the U.S. Forest Service and its partners for free use by the public (Nowak 2021). The software allows users to assess and quantify tree canopy cover across a study area using visual interpretation of Google Earth imagery. Those data are then used to run models that estimate ecosystem services of tree canopy within the study area. Model outputs are provided in tabular and graphical format. Outputs include a breakdown of tree canopy cover relative to other land cover types and estimates of carbon offsets, air pollution filtration, and stormwater capture from tree canopy.
