This chapter seeks to describe the uses of geostatistics and spatial analysis within a GIScience context that are appropriate to geomorphologic research. A review of state-of-the-art methods of geostatistics and spatial pattern analysis are presented, followed by case studies within Glacier National Park (GNP), Montana, USA. Spatial analysis and geostatistics are presented in the context of examining landscape organization and biophysical scale, pattern and process relationships to understand the alpine treeline ecotone. The case studies review analytical approaches, data, methods, and interpretations of previous studies that we have done in GNP (as well as the broader literature) and present new data, analyses, and interpretations.
