The NHL nomination for the Perkins Homestead documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 2 as the ancestral home and lifelong summer residence of Frances Perkins, US Secretary of Labor, 1933-45, the nation's first female cabinet secretary and one of its most effective public servants.
