The Swiftcurrent Auto Camp Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. The historic district boundary as drawn in 1995 excluded additions to the development that were made during Mission 66 since they were not yet 50 years old. This report updates the 1995 nomination to include the later development, recommending enlargement of the historic district boundary to include those structures. It places the Swiftcurrent Auto Camp within the full sweep of park history from railroad era in the early twentieth century through the transition to automobile use of national parks in the interwar period, and on into the modern era with its concerns over visitor crowding, visitor impacts on the environment, and historic preservation.
