This User Manual was produced to describe and guide use of the List of Classified Structures (LCS) database following the release of Version 5.2 in June 2004. This release included changes to implement NPS policy on complex passwords and the process of certifying records by LCS Regional Coordinators. The data structure was changed to allow maintaining a history of interim treatment costs and approved, prescribed ultimate treatments and associated information. This manual was not finalized. Included in this record is clarification developed by the Alaska Region (Bonnie Houston) for Ruined Structures from 2006 also unpublished but part of the same updates to Version 5.2 of the database. The database was updated and new guidance was issued in 2010 and 2024. The LCS is now the Historic Structure module of the four module Cultural Resources Inventory System (CRIS), or CRIS-HS. The List of Classified Structures (LCS) is an evaluated inventory of all historic and prehistoric structures that have historical, architectural, and/or engineering significance within parks of the National Park System in which the National Park Service has, or plans to acquire, any legal interest. Structures are constructed works that serve some form of human activity and that generally are immovable. The list is evaluated or "classified" by the National Register criteria.
