In the sagebrush steppe of the western U.S., invasive annual grasses are displacing native plants, increasing wildfire risks. Traditional management often fails, allowing reinvasion. Herbicide Protection (HP) coating, using activated carbon, aims to synchronize herbicide application and seeding. Testing HP coatings on bluebunch wheatgrass seeds with imazapic herbicide across six sites showed no significant protection. Future research should refine coatings and explore better seeding techniques.
