This document is updated National Historic Landmark (NHL) documentation for the Andrew Wyeth Studio and Kuerner Farm National Historic Landmark in Chadds Ford Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The updated NHL documentation for the Andrew Wyeth Studio and Kuerner Farm documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 2 for its association with the internationally renowned artist Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009). These properties are associated with Wyeth’s seventy-six-year career, from 1933 until 2009. The discontiguous district, located in the southeastern Pennsylvania community which was the artist’s primary residence throughout his life, includes two properties. The first property is the Kuerner Farm (listed as a National Historic Landmark in 2011), where Wyeth found inspiration for paintings ranging in date from 1933 until his death in 2009. The second property is the Andrew Wyeth Studio. Andrew Wyeth lived and worked in the building from 1940 to 1962 and maintained his studio there until his death. Criteria Consideration 8 applies because the period of significance extends to less than fifty years to Wyeth’s death in 2009.
