The NHL nomination for the Mary Baker Eddy House documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 2 as the residence and primary workspace of Mary Baker Eddy, a writer and founder of the Church of Christ, Scientist. While living in this house, Eddy completed and published her primary work and most important theological statement ("Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"), began teaching and preaching, obtained charters both for the church and the college she would establish, and laid the foundation for her church organization. The period of national significance is 1875 to 1882.
