This document is the National Historic Landmark nomination for the Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi. The NHL nomination for the Mississippi State Capitol documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 4 as an exceptionally fine example of Academic Classical Revival architecture, which spread nationwide following the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893. Designed by Theodore C. Link, the state capitol building in Jackson, Mississippi, was completed before any of the other state capitols that are important examples of American Academic Classicism. The building is notable as well for its large and important collection of art glass by Louis J. Millet, and for its extensive use of scagliola (art marble). The period of national significance is 1900-1903.
