Saguaro National Monument, Arizona: Outstanding display of the structural characteristics of metamorphic core complexes.
Davis GH. 1987. Saguaro National Monument, Arizona: Outstanding display of the structural characteristics of metamorphic core complexes.. Geological Society of America Centennial Field Guide, Cordilleran Section. :35-40
More than any other locality, the geology of the east district of Saguaro National Monument serves as the basis for distinguishing and classifying fundamental structural characteristics of a metamorphic core complex. These can be seen along the Cactus Forest Loop Drive. Mylonites, ultramylonites and cataclasites exposed here are among the finest examples. Schematic diagram shows fundamental structural components of metamorphic core complex and map designates locations to view core complex structures.
