This document is updated National Historic Landmark (NHL) documentation for the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The updated NHL nomination for the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 4 as an outstanding example of the American Renaissance influence on government buildings as defined through Beaux-Arts classicism. It is an exemplary representation of the collaboration between architect, artist, sculptor, and craftsmen. The Capitol Building is also the centerpiece of a greater civic plan that evolved out of the City Beautiful movement. The updated documentation expands the boundary to include the entire capitol complex. The period of national significance is 1894-1940.
