This document is updated National Historic Landmark (NHL) documentation for Hill-Stead National Historic Landmark in Farmington, Hartford County, Connecticut. The updated NHL nomination for Hill-Stead documents its national significance under NHL Criteria 1 and 4 as an outstanding representation of the influential Country Life Movement and as one of the best-preserved Colonial Revival estates in the country. The updated documentation incorporates new scholarship on the role of Theodate Pope Riddle, the principal architect of the property, in designing the estate in collaboration with New York architects McKim, Mead & White.
