This study was done two years after the La Mesa Fire of 1977 in Bandelier N.ational Monument, New Mexico. Four study plots were delineated, two in unburned areas, one in a ground fire area, and one in a crown fire area, all within the ponderosa pine zone. The vegetation in these plots was censused and the diversity analyzed. some ecological theory concerning diversity is presented and discussed.
