The Pinnacles National Monument California Condor Reestablishment - Annual Report 2008 offers a detailed overview of the park's efforts in the conservation and recovery of the condor population. During 2008, the Pinnacles National Monument Condor Reestablishment Program tracked a flock of 16 condors over a range of approximately 90 miles north to south and 60 miles east to west. No Pinnacles-released condors attempted breeding in 2008. Among Pinnacles released condors, there was one mortality in 2008: a four-year-old female died of lead toxicosis in the autumn. Five juveniles from a cohort of seven were released prior to January 1, 2009.
