This document is the National Historic Landmark nomination for the Murray Springs Clovis Site National Historic Landmark in the vicinity of Sierra Vista, Cochise County, Arizona. The NHL nomination for the Murray Springs Clovis Site documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 6. The 13,000-year-old site is among the richest early Paleoindian sites in North America with a mammoth-kill, a bison-kill, and a Clovis camp site. Such sites are extremely rare and the Murray Springs Clovis Site is distinguished from other known Clovis sites due to its unusually intact camp site and processing areas, as well as its geological sequence. This site has provided a rare opportunity to enhance our understanding of Paleoindian behavior. The period of national significance is 13,000 years ago (11,000 B.C.E.).
