Field reconnaissance of Spud Rock Spring, July 24-26, 2018

Swann D and Ludkey E. 2018. Field reconnaissance of Spud Rock Spring, July 24-26, 2018. National Park Service

Field study and report with recommendations for management options of Spud Rock Spring in the Rincon Mountain District of Saguaro National Park. Spud Rock Spring is the major water source for Spud Rock Campground. High elevation springs in Sky Islands like the Rincon Mountains have received a great deal of attention in recent years because it is believed they may dry up due to climate change. There was interest in understanding why Spud Rock and other park springs had become unreliable. Hydrogeology interns explored the area and sought historic records that might provide helpful information.
