Eight Dall Sheep (Ovis dalli) surveys have been conducted within YUCH since 1983. Two of the previous surveys incorporated nearly all of the sheep habitat within YUCH On July 10 and 11, 1997 a sheep survey was conducted in Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve (YUCH). OBJECTIVES 1. Determine a population estimate of Dall sheep for the Charley River drainage and surrounding mountains. 2. Utilize existing radio-marked sheep to generate a mark-recapture population estimate. 3. Estimate the sex and age composition of the sheep population. 4. Document locations of sheep throughout the Charley River drainage. 5. To ensure data collected was consistent and comparable to previous surveys.
