The Delta-09 Launch Facility and Delta-01 Launch Control Center are both located near Philip, South Dakota. Delta-01 Launch Control Center (LCC) is a 29 feet by 54 feet concrete capsule located forty feet below ground. The LCC is accessed by elevator from the Launch Control Facility on the surface. Delta-09 Launch Facility (LF) missile silo is an underground concrete structure with a cylindrical steel-lined shaft extending 80 feet below the surface. The Delta-09 Soft Support Building is a14 feet by 24 feet by 11 deep rectangular underground concrete vault with exposed cap on the surface. The goal of the Delta-09 Launch Facility Historic Structure Report and Delta-01 Launch Control Center Supplemental Analysis is to update the 2010 Historic Structure Report, Cultural Landscape Report, and Environmental Analysis. The HSR Part 1 includes a Developmental History with additional historical research on the Missile Silo, condition assessment, and structural investigation. The HSR Part 2 features a preservation treatment plan with Class C construction cost estimate. Hazardous material testing and paint analysis are also included. The Supplemental Analysis for Delta-01 Launch Control Center furnished paint analysis of the below grade capsule to inform future preservation maintenance. Minuteman Missile National Historic Site was established as a unit of the National Park Service on November 29, 1999 to preserve, protect, and interpret the Delta-09 Launch Facility and Delta-01 Launch Control Facility associated with the Minuteman Intercontinental Ballistic Missile System, and interpret its role as a key component of America’s strategic defense int the broader context of the Cold War.
