Geologic features, resources, and processes of Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River. Evaluation performed by Duane Braun (Pennsylvanian Geological Survey) for the NPS Geologic Resources Division. This document describes the geology of UPDE, in addition to park’s unique and outstanding geologic features (e.g., gorges, incised river meanders, rocky rapids, bogs, historic stone quarries). For educational and interpretive purposes, a geologic river guide is provided that describes the geomorphological and major landscape features as you navigate the Upper Delaware River from Point Mountain (river mile 331.0) to Butlers Rift (river mile 260.0).
