This document is the National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for the Platt National Park Historic District in Sulphur, Murray County, Oklahoma. The NHL nomination for the Platt National Park Historic District documents its national significance under NHL Criteria 1 and 4. The 848-acre district meets Criterion 1 as an outstanding example of how the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was implemented by the National Park Service, leading to unprecedented development of state and national parks in the 1930s. The district meets Criterion 4 as an outstanding representation of the principles and practices of landscape design that were formulated by NPS in the early twentieth century and that became the hallmark of CCC work in national, state, and local parks. The period of national significance is 1933-1940.
