The Alaska Street Crib HSR was undertaken in concert with the Goldberg Cigar Store and Confectionery HSR, Kitty Faith Crib HSR, and the Frye-Bruhn Cold Storage HSR conducted by the project team in 2020 with the final draft submitted to the National Park Service in 2022. The building contributes to the Skagway & White Pass District National Historic Landmark at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and sits within the Skagway Historic District, the commercial district of downtown Skagway, Alaska. The district consists of well-preserved turn of the century frontier commercial buildings and outstanding examples of residential workers' housing from the same period. Some of the buildings have been moved within the district, including the Alaska Street Crib, but this does not diminish the contribution of these buildings to the historical context and significance of the historic district. The building was included in the district documentation as resource #29, "Dennis Rental House." The NHL documentation noted that the building was built ca. 1900 and described it as "small wood frame, double beveled shiplap siding, wood relieving arches over door and windows, former crib, deteriorated condition." The building was donated by the Dennis Family and was relocated to its current location by NPS in 2014. The proposed treatment recommendations in this Historic Structure Report follow the Restoration Treatment as defined by The Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. The Restoration treatment will focus on restoring the building's historic fabric and character-defining features from the Period of Significance.
