The Goldberg Cigar Store and Confectionery HSR was completed by the project team in 2020 in concert with the Alaska Street Crib HSR, Kitty Faith Crib HSR, and the Frye-Bruhn Cold Storage Building HSR conducted. The Goldberg Cigar Store and Confectionery was built in 1897 in Skagway, Alaska and contributes to the Skagway & White Pass District National Historic Landmark at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and sits within the Skagway Historic District, the commercial district of downtown Skagway, Alaska. The district consists of well-preserved turn of the century frontier commercial buildings. Some of the buildings have been moved within the district, including the Goldberg Cigar Store, but this does not diminish the contribution of these buildings to the historical context and significance of the historic district. The building was moved for a seventh time to its current location in 2014. Preservation as the recommended treatment approach will focus on restoring the building’s existing historic fabric and character-defining features that represent the historic use of the building and convey the historical significance of the Goldberg Cigar Store.
