The historic U.S. Reservation system records and tracks land acquired by the Federal Government after the original founding of the District of Columbia as the seat of the U.S. government. These lands were acquired through a variety of mechanisms, including purchase, condemnation, dedication, and gifts. While the modern recording of real property has changed, these Reservations are still used and referenced for tracking the history of land use, resource management, permitting, and other land management purposes. This reference includes the georeferenced versions of the files. The original, non-georeferenced images are available from the Library of Congress. Links to the specific Library of Congress records are included in the Files and Links section of this reference.
