Evaluation of Cub Lake Trail flooding, Rocky Mountain National Park

Schook D. 2019. Evaluation of Cub Lake Trail flooding, Rocky Mountain National Park. National Park Service. Fort Collins, CO

About 270 ft south of the trailhead the Cub Lake Trail frequently experiences high flows that inundate a side channel of the Big Thompson River and flood the trail as it approaches the Big Thompson bridge. This creates maintenance and visitor use problems. Reconnaissance level investigations were conducted on September 4 and October 17, 2019 to develop strategies to mitigate flooding of the bridge approach.
