The overall objective of this monitoring program is to determine the status and long-term trends in the distribution and relative abundance of aquatic amphibians throughout the coastal, mountains and inland resource management zones of SAMO. Additionally, the protocol aims to document the influence of urbanization, water quality, and the presence and abundance of non-native species on native species. Monitoring of stream environmental and physical features that may influence amphibian distribution and abundance can be used as a measure of overall ecosystem health. Specific Monitoring Objectives to be addressed by the protocol include: Determine the status and long-term trends in percent area occupied by larvae, juvenile, and adult aquatic amphibians (HYRE, HYCA, TATO, and BUBO) in streams throughout SAMO during the breeding season. Determine the status and long-term trends in indices of abundance for larvae, juvenile, and adult aquatic amphibians in streams throughout SAMO during the breeding season. Determine the status and long-term trends in occupancy and abundance of non-native species, including crayfish, non-native fish, and New Zealand mud snails in streams throughout SAMO during the breeding season.
