The Georgetown area of the C&O Canal National Historical Park cultural landscape is significant for its association with the history of transportation and engineering in the United States. This Cultural Landscape Report addresses the historic and existing conditions of each landscape characteristic, building an understanding that much of the landscape today reflects its character and appearance during the period of significance (1828-1972). This report recommends rehabilitation as the primary treatment for the cultural landscape. The treatment recommendations address physical interventions based on the appropriate treatment approaches, as well as policy/management-related recommendations.
