A critical mission of the Pacific Island Network Inventory and Monitoring program (PACN) is to monitor park ecosystems to better understand their dynamic nature and provide park managers with current data to inform management actions. We utilized a long-term, systematic approach to monitor the major plant communities within parks in the Pacific Islands to assess status and trends of plant community composition and structure at 5–7-year intervals. This report focuses specifically on the Coastal Strand Plant Community within Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park. Plant community composition and structure are assessed in terms of vascular plant species diversity, understory cover (at two different structural layers), species density (of woody species by height or size class), species distribution frequency, and coarse woody debris.
