The Andersonville National Cemetery Preservation Maintenance Plan (PMP) provides guidance for ongoing maintenance operations that preserve the historic character, and therefore the historic integrity, of this historically significant cultural landscape. Throughout the Plan, the term preservation maintenance is used to describe the collective practice of monitoring change, controlling growth, making repairs, replacing in-kind, and minimizing disturbance to ensure the cultural landscape and its contributing resources are retained and convey the desired character. The PMP also guides the sequencing and scheduling of tasks, activities, and projects, and provides work order and PMIS templates for future project planning and funding requests for staffing, materials, and equipment. The PMP provides guidance on condition tracking and monitoring over time. Andersonville National Cemetery is a permanent place of honor for those who died in military service to our country. The cemetery is the only one of fourteen NPS National Cemeteries that remains open to new interments. Today, Andersonville contains approximately over 20,000 burials of veterans and their spouses.
