SWAN Inventory Base Cartography: Alagnak Wild River, Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve, Katmai National Park and Preserve, Kenai Fjords National Park, and Lake Clark National Park
Elliot EA and Martyn P. SWAN Inventory Base Cartography: Alagnak Wild River, Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve, Katmai National Park and Preserve, Kenai Fjords National Park, and Lake Clark National Park. 1991-2001. National Park Service
The Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve enhanced satellite image mosaic was created by the National Park Service Alaska Landcover Mapping Program. An MRLC image from the USGS EROS Field Office for May 11, 2001 path/row 72/20 was used to create this product. Coverage is complete for the entire Monument and Preserve. The mosaic was created using bands 4-red,and 3-green 2-blue. The TM7 image data was sampled for a 30m pixel. The original image was generated in WGS84 and was reprojected by the National Park Service to NAD27 and then NAD83. The final mosaic has been produced with a 30m pixel. The mosaic is useful down to approximately 1:60,000. The expected geometric accuracy of the product is ± 60m. The Lake Clark National Park and Preserve satellite image mosaic was created by the National Park Service Alaska Landcover Mapping Program from TM images path 69 rows 18 & 19 (9 August 2000), path 70 rows 17 & 18 (16 August 2000), path 71 rows 17 & 18 (6 September 1999) and path 72 rows 17 & 18 (28 August 1999). Manual blending has been done to match scenes n areas of water, shadows or clouds. Coverage in complete for the entire Park and Preserve. The mosaic was created using the bands 3 red,2 green, and 1 blue and results in a true color image of the Park. The TM image data was sampled for a 30 meter pixel in Alaska Albers format, North American Datum 83. The mosaic is useful down to approximately 1:60,000. The Kenai Fjords image was created by the National Park Service Alaska Landcover Mapping Program. A satellite image from the August 9, 2000 TM7 overpass for path/row 69/18 was used to create the image. Coverage for the Park area is incomplete. The point of Cape Aialik was beyond the image coverage as were some of the offshore islands of the Maritime Refuge. The mosaic was created using the 30m visible bands (3,2,1) merged with the 15m panchromatic band. The resulting image has a 15m pixel size. The panchromatic band contains some infrared information that “enhances” the true color image. The mosaic is useful down to approximately 1:40,000. The source imagery was generated by the USGS MRLC program and was delivered in Alaska Albers-WSG84 projection. The final image was reprojected to NAD 27 using the ERDAS IMAGINE rigorous transformation. The Katmai National Park and Preserve satellite image mosaic was created by the National Park Service Alaska Landcover Mapping Program. TM5 images from path/row 72/19 August 30, 1991 and path/row 71/19 September 3,1995 were used together with TM7 images path/row 70/19-20 August 16, 2000 to create this product. Coverage is complete for the entire Park. The mosaic was created using bands 3-red, 2-green,and 1-blue and results in a true color image of the Park. The TM image data was sampled for a 30m pixel. The original image was generated for the National Park Service in Alaska Albers NAD83 format. The mosaic is useful down to approximately 1:60,000. The eastern TM7 data exhibits better radiometric quality than the TM5 data. The expected geometric accuracy of the product is ± 50m. For generation of map service
