This document is the National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for the St. Bartholomew’s Church and Community House in New York City, New York. The NHL nomination for the St. Bartholomew’s Church and Community House documents its national significance under NHL Criterion 4 as a pivotal example of the work of Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue and an outstanding example of early twentieth-century ecclesiastical architecture in the United States. Built at a time when the Gothic Revival was the standard style for ecclesiastical buildings among wealthy congregations, St. Bartholomew’s employed a colorful palette of Romanesque and Byzantine eclecticism. The period of national significance is 1914-1930.
